Implementing High-performance public transport systems

What are the main objectives of local authorities in managing their public transport:

  • optimising urban and suburban travel times
  • improving transport conditions for everyone

They are introducing efficient urban and suburban public transport systems that offer users innovative services: light rail, trolleybus, bus rapid transit (BRT) and metro systems, railways, stations, multimodal transit hubs and park-and-rides.

VINCI Energies business units install temporary and permanent public lighting systems along planned transport infrastructure. This work is carried out simultaneously with utility displacement. In most cases, local Citéos brand business units take part in the installation of these lighting systems.

Electrical equipment: supplying power along the route

Once the infrastructure has been built, power supply equipment is installed to provide traction. The operation consists in installing overhead lines that carry a 750 or 1,500 Volts DC current and connecting them via electrical sub-stations to the EDF grid.

Ensuring urban transport safety and fluidity: traffic control

The main advantages of bus rapid transit (BRT) and light rail systems, with their reserved lanes and priority at intersections, are smooth traffic flow and guaranteed travel times for users.

It is therefore important for urban areas to set up a Traffic Control Centre (TCC) to coordinate information from on-board equipment and from passenger stations.

The Control Centre is interconnected with the video surveillance, radio, public address, BMS (Building Management System), technical, on-board and traffic light systems deployed along the entire route.
