G+H Isolierung obtains first European approval for its electric installation duct
The Deutsche Institut für Bautechnik (German centre of competence for construction) has just granted Germany's G+H Isolierung, whose specialisms include fire protection, the first European approval for its PYROMENT-IK 90® type BD electric installation duct.
Fires often spread in buildings through the electric installation ducts. To address this issue, G+H devised a duct featuring a type of material that foams up, thus trapping the oxygen and depriving the flames of one of the elements needed for combustion.
PYROMENT-IK 90® type BD was first installed in 2007 in Germany. Since then, it has been used in numerous buildings such as the Elbphilharmonie concert hall in Hamburg, the European Central Bank (ECB) and the Olympiahalle arena in Munich.
The European approval obtained by G+H Isolierung is even more stringent than DIN 4102-11, the German testing standard.
The use of approved electric installation ducts in emergency exits, corridors and staircases is required by the various building control services.
