This technology is not yet used for lighting of urban roads, as its performances are not yet sufficient. Citéos therefore decided to test LED light fixtures on the market in the field over the course of two months.
Seven suppliers were selected by Citéos according to precise criteria. Each of the units has to meet the requirements in terms of performance and safety of the norm EN 13201. The following parameters were evaluated theoretically: intensity, uniformity, rate of glare, the ratio of illumination between the road and its surroundings, the hue and the electricity consumption.
Two units of each light fixture were installed as part of the study to test:
- The luminosity characteristics of the equipment,
- The perception of users of the roads and local residents.
Citéos carries out a systematic watch of the norms in effect for lighting. While awaiting specific norms for LED’s, the teams will be informed of all research and rulings on the subject, and in particular of the report published in October 2010 by ANSES (National Agency for Health Safety, food, the environment and labor).
