A revolutionary medical center in Lisbon

2010-10-19 : A revolutionary medical center in Lisbon
Sotécnica, a VINCI Energies business unit in Portugal, received the contract for the technical work (electricity, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and plumbing) for a major research center built by the Champalimaud Foundation.

In Lisbon, the Champalimaud Foundation* is building a multi-disciplinary research complex of close to 60,000 m2 on the banks of the Tagus. The double building will host a research center, a health care establishment for patients, and a pleasure garden. Sotécnica, a VINCI Energies in Portugal, business unit, is handing the electricity, heating-ventilation-air conditioning and plumbing work for this exceptional scientific center.

The scientific purpose of the premises constitutes a technical challenge for Sotécnica and its partners, because the presence of many laboratories requires the construction of vast electrical and ventilation systems in a specific manner.

To address this complexity, 40 engineers, technicians and foremen worked in advance on the design and organization of the systems of this gigantic puzzle which includes 250 electrical panels, 1.7 km of prefabricated electrical ducts, 900 kilometers of wires and 13,000 light fixtures, delivering an installed capacity of 9 MWatts.

This imposing complex was officially inaugurated by the President of Portugal on October 5.
