News on the ‘Petit Saut' Dam

2010-12-14 : News on the ‘Petit Saut' Dam
The ‘Petit Saut', a hydroelectric dam in French Guiana in undergoing thorough rehabilitation. It is an exceptional job for the teams at Actemium in Nantes who are in charge of the renovation of the four maintenance portals.

The dam is located on the Sinnamary River, adjacent to the estuary. The ‘Petit Saut ‘ supplies 75% of  French Guiana’s electricity. The storage basin measures 310 km2, a particularly ally large surface area.

The ‘Petit Saut’ dam has been in operation for 25 years. Electricité de France, EDF, recently organized a vast renovation project the first step of which was to review the workings of the maintenance portals. Based on its reputation of 30 years for expertise in the area of lifting gears, EDF asked Actemium to carry out the project.

"The four entrance portals, situated both upstream and downstream, control the flood gates thereby enabling certain parts of the dam, the turbines  for instance to be placed above water. Access is thus facilitated to the selected areas in order to do the maintenance work.”

Actemium offered EDF total coverage including the structural, mechanical and electrical restoration.
