Solidarity commitment in Tanzania

Cegelec API trainee Godwill Dah is lending his skills to a sustainable education project in Tanzania. This initiative is supported by his business unit and highlights the tangible impact of solidarity commitments.

Last summer, Godwill Dah, an engineering trainee in the design consultancy at Cegelec API, decided to devote the three months of his English-language placement to a humanitarian mission.

With the support of his business unit manager, Thomas Chapeland, Godwill reached out to the non-profit LifeTime Projects, which proposed a project in Tanzania.

The objective of Godwill’s assigned mission was the construction of a sustainable vocational high school in Saramé, in partnership with the Jabungu Foundation. The aim of this project is to offer a positive and autonomous future for young people in a region where fewer than 30% – and even fewer girls – enter secondary education.

The future establishment, powered by solar energy, will include excellent washroom facilities and a permaculture garden, and offer practical training courses.

In the course of his mission, Godwill worked on a range of technical elements:

  • Electrical design for the administration building
  • Implementation of electrical plans and installation of equipment
  • Construction of a chicken coop
  • Design of a 25 kWp solar system.

Cegelec API also supported the project with a €3,000 donation to LifeTime Projects and hopes to continue supporting the association in the long term. It views this initiative as far more than simple finance – a lever for measurable impact aligned with the values of VINCI Energies.

The business unit plans to help in a number of ways:

  • Dispatching volunteers and supplies
  • Help with administrative and safety aspects
  • Skills-based sponsorship to validate technical models
  • Forging links with the Fondation VINCI pour la Cité
  • Mobilising a network of partner companies for long-term support.
