Bringing children closer to nature and the environment

Marion, HR director at VINCI Energies Germany, was involved in the “Garten Gretesch” project led by the “Himbeerbunt e.V.” charitable organisation and backed by the VINCI Foundation in Germany.

Can you tell us about Himbeerbunt e.V.? How did you come across it?

Himbeerbunt e.V. is a charitable organisation based in Osnabrück, Germany, which focuses on intercultural projects in areas like sustainable food, beekeeping and active leisure. I worked on the Garten Gretesch project which aims to make children from disadvantaged families more aware of the environment, gardening and natural history within an inclusive atmosphere. I came across the project through the VINCI-Stiftung, the VINCI Foundation in Germany, and I decided to become a mentor for the organisation.

What motivated you to undertake this experience?

The organisation’s goal is very important and it was a good fit with my own interest in sustainability, animal welfare and gardening. I believe it’s vital to get children, especially those from disadvantaged families, more involved in this topic.

What was your role within the organisation?

I was an ambassador for the project, acting as an intermediary between the organisation and the VINCI Foundation. By sharing my positive feedback from the organisation with the Foundation, I helped boost support for the Garten Gretesch project. And I shared my own experience in sustainability and animal welfare, areas that are close to my heart, with Himbeerbunt e.V.

Do you have any advice for people who would like to get involved in a corporate support initiative?

My advice would be to go ahead and contact the VINCI Foundation. That will enable you not only to get involved in projects whose goals are aligned with your values and personal interests, but also to drive a project you want to support.

What does solidarity mean to you?

It means working together towards a common goal and being prepared to support those who are less fortunate. It means giving without expecting anything in return.

How did this mentoring experience benefit you?

It helped me to have a positive impact on the community, to gain new perspectives and to feel a sense of achievement in supporting a project I believe in.
