Update on the UNICEF* education programme in Timor-Leste

VINCI Energies is funding a project that aims to improve the quality of education in Timor Leste by supporting schools in three municipalities to use digital resources. As part of the programme, 249 teachers in the selected schools have participated in a training needs assessment conducted by UNICEF.

Since 2022, VINCI Energies has been supporting three UNICEF projects that seek to help participant schools access the Internet and the information it brings, enabling them to provide a quality hybrid learning experience that combines digital tools with more conventional classroom approaches.

In Timor-Leste, VINCI Energies is funding a project to equip several schools in the municipalities of Liquiçá, Ermera and Ainaro with an Internet connection. This project will ensure more than 6,000 children aged 6 to 15 receive a quality education incorporating digital resources.

As part of the programme, 249 teachers in the selected schools have participated in a training needs assessment conducted by UNICEF Timor-Leste. The purpose of this exercise is to identify the areas where they are most in need of support to adapt to using new technologies. The findings will form a basis for enhancing existing learning programmes and teacher training in terms of content, approaches and other technical aspects.

UNICEF is delivering this project in collaboration with Timor-Leste’s Ministry of Education.
