Axians is helping 37 municipalities in the Province of Burgos, Spain, to modernise their water-cycle management using a modular micro data centre.
The Provincial Council of Burgos was keen to equip its 37 municipalities with high-performance digital tools for managing the water cycle. To that end, Axians designed a modular micro data centre to centralise the data obtained from sensors across the region.
Information relating to water quality, consumption, reservoir levels, wastewater discharges, and even flood risks can now be collected and analysed in real time.
Unlike a conventional data centre, this micro version can be preassembled in the workshop then installed on site. This approach significantly reduces costs and rollout times, while also ensuring full compliance with the high-level NIS2, GDPR and ENS standards within the Spanish regulatory framework for cybersecurity.
Its scalable architecture offers a further advantage. Currently, only 20% of its capacity is used, leaving a large margin for future uses, including to accommodate new applications for water management, or other public services such as waste management. Its modular design also makes rapid redeployment to another site a possibility.
Financed under a European programme, the project is aligned with European Union climate targets. “Sustainability and the capacity to absorb future workloads were essential criteria for the Provincial Council of Burgos. Our solution was designed from the outset to meet these two requirements,” explains Francisco José García López, Public Sector Business Manager at Axians Spain.
