Global energy performance contract in Aix‑les‑Bains

The municipal authority in Aix-les-Bains recently awarded Citeos a global energy performance contract covering its public lighting, including sports, heritage and festive lighting, as well as traffic lights and urban video protection.

This global energy performance contract, which came into effect on 1 January 2026, is an element in the transformation of urban infrastructure in Aix‑les‑Bains to enhance its energy efficiency, safety and quality of life. It involves the rollout of connected lighting solutions capable of adapting to different uses and the unique features of each part of town.

The Citeos project includes the full modernisation of public and sports lighting assets with a conversion to 100% LED. The task covers 6,700 lighting points and requires the replacement of many thousand light fittings, some as part of retrofitting operations, and the renovation of numerous brackets and supports. This modernisation will eventually allow energy savings of up to 70%.

Designed to combine performance and environmental protection, the new installation will include a system to adjust lighting power for different areas and requirements. This approach will also take account of green and blue corridors to limit the lighting’s impact on biodiversity, particularly crucially in areas bordering the lake.

The contract also covers the modernisation and gradual expansion of the urban video protection system, with 239 cameras to be installed and operated. The urban monitoring centre will remain fully operational throughout to ensure its continuous and effective service.

In addition to the energy savings, this project forms part of a circular economy approach. Through retrofitting and the reclamation of equipment removed, it will avoid the consumption of 334 tonnes of raw materials and save 1,023 cubic metres of water, as well as prioritising waste recycling.
