Porto: a digital platform to monitor use of the World of Wine tourist centre

WOW is a wine tourism complex situated in the historic Vila Nova de Gaia district, the heart of the port wine industry. Axians Portugal has implemented a technology platform designed to track and analyse its visitors’ behaviour.

The new World of Wine (WOW) opened in July 2020. This unique attraction covers a surface area of more than 30,000 sq. metres, and includes restaurants, bars, museums, shops, a wine school and several event spaces.

WOW called upon Axians Portugal’s technological know-how to introduce data automation, digital interaction and intelligent detection systems; and on Longo Plano’s specialist expertise in video surveillance, counting and access control.

The technology platform shows usage patterns for WOW customers (time spent in the museum, money spent, etc.) and evaluates WOW’s operating costs, such as energy, maintenance and cleaning, in near-real time.

“The objective is to make informed strategic decisions, and to know which avenues to pursue and what needs improving.” Joao Deusdado, Lead Consultant in IT Transformation Consulting Services at Axians Portugal.
