Offshore wind farm at the edge of the North Sea

Omexom Renewable Energies Offshore took part in construction of “Trianel Windpark Borkum 2” in Germany. Its 32 wind turbines generate 200 megawatts of power and supply 130,000 homes with renewable energy.

This ambitious wind farm in the North Sea was three years in the planning and two years in construction. Works to install the first turbine began in July 2019 and were completed in April 2020.

For the development and implementation of the project, Omexom Renewable Energies Offshore was responsible for technical management, from design through to installation.

Omexom Renewable Energies Offshore began by laying the wind turbine foundations on the sea bed, then proceeded to build an electrical substation. Lastly, the turbines, once transported, were connected to the offshore station and made operational.

The business unit is also responsible for care and maintenance of the foundations and the “Trianel Windpark Borkum 2” offshore substation.

“Developing offshore wind energy offers numerous possibilities, but also immense technical challenges”, says Irina Lucke, Business Unit Manager at Omexom Renewable Energies Offshore. To find out more about the offshore wind market, read the article in Agility Effect.
